PROCLAIM 2016 is about helping Catholics respond to the call to engage in the new evangelisation. It is about promoting and resourcing the conversion of parishes to be vibrant faith communities. It recognises the importance of the local parish in developing disciples who are joyful messengers of challenging proposals.
Pope Francis has affirmed that “parishes play an essential role in evangelisation” (EG 28) and has now tasked the Church to propose the theme of mercy “again and again with new enthusiasm and pastoral action” for “wherever the Church is present, the mercy of the Father must be evident. In our parishes, communities, associations and movements, in a word, wherever there are Christians, everyone should find an oasis of mercy” (MV 12).
For this reason PROCLAIM 2016 is responding to this call from Pope Francis to review and renew our parishes in the light of joy and the tenderness of mercy so that they may be “environments of living communion and participation . . . completely mission-oriented” (EG 28).
